ROCHESTER, NY – SUNY Brockport used a 16-4 run to end the first half and upend the RIT women's basketball team (0-2) 65-44 on Saturday in the second annual RIT Tip-Off Classic at Clark Gym. Morrisville State defeated Mt. Aloyisius 69-55 in the second contest of the afternoon.
The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent (28-for-56) from the field overall. Brenlyn Campbell led the Golden Eagles (1-0) with 16 points and eight boards. Kiomi Matthews scored all 10 of her points in the first half, while Jen Buskus had eight points and seven assists.
The Tigers played well over the first 15 minutes of the contest, and led 18-16 with 6:36 left in the half, until Brockport went on its big run. The Golden Eagles would lead by as many as 27, at 55-28 in the second half. The 39-10 run put the game away.
RIT out-rebounded SUNY Brockport 46-41 and had 18 offensive boards.
Freshman center #Sharon Dennis (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)# (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) recorded her second straight double-double, with 16 points and 10 boards.# Charley Scott-McGrail (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame)# (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame) added eight boards and six points, while #Anne Wapshare (Blasdell, NY/Blasdell)# (Blasdell, NY/Blasdell) chipped in with seven points, five rebounds and two steals.
RIT turned the ball over 30 times and shot just 26.2 percent (16-for-61) from the field.
Ebony Whitfield led Morrisville State with 25 points, 16 rebounds and six steals, while shooting 12-for-16 from the field in the second contest of the afternoon. Tekesha Hanson, Courtney Terzi and Sydney Pajack all scored in double figures. Kaylee Keagy led Mt. Aloysius with 12 points, while Krista Baker had 10 points. Morrisville out-rebounded Mt. Aloysius 50-34.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday, as they host Morrisville State in RIT Tip-Off Classic action at 2 p.m. SUNY Brockport plays Mt. Aloysius at 12 p.m. Sunday.
