ROCHESTER, NY -- The Empire 8 announced the 2008 women's soccer all-conference team this morning. Six members of the RIT women's soccer team were named to the all-conference team. #
Danielle LaFrance (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-N.Syracuse)# (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) and
Emily Traversi (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) were second-team selections and
Sara Frisicano (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia),
Ashley Pezze (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) and
Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH) were honorable mention selections.
Krystal Adriaansen (Marion, NY/Marion) (Marion, NY) was an honorable mention selection as well as RIT's Sportswoman of the Year.
Traversi, an All-Empire 8 honorable mention selection in 2007 and 2008, leads the team in scoring with 24 points on eight goals and two assists. She tallied RIT's first hat-trick in over five years in a 6-1 win over Alfred University on October 22 and is third all-time in scoring at RIT with 58 career points. Her 11 goals this season is tied for fifth all-time at RIT and her 22 career goals places her in a tie for third all-time at RIT.
LaFrance was a second-team selection in 2007 and has not missed a game since joining the team in 2005. She has been a stalwart on RIT's defense for four seasons. This season, LaFrance has helped RIT hold their opponents to 1.44 goals per game which is third in the Empire 8. She also dished out an assist this season and has two career points.
Adriaansen earned her first All-Empire 8 honor after a stellar season in 2008. She is tied for third on the team in scoring with nine points on two goals and five assists. Over the last two seasons Adriaansen, RIT's Sportswoman of the Year, has dished out 12 assists and is first all-time in assists at RIT with 14.
Frisicano earns her first spot on this year's Empire 8 All-Conference team. The sophomore central defender has played and started every game since joining the team in 2007. She was part of a defense that held opponents to 1.44 goals per game in 2008, third in the Empire 8 in that category.
Pezze had a break-out season in 2008 for RIT. The junior midfielder had career-bests in points (10), goals (4) and assists (2). Two of her four goals were game-winners and her four goals scored was second on the team.
Conti, an honorable mention selection in 2007, was seventh in the Empire 8 with a 1.82 goals against average. The senior net-minder had a 5-6-1 overall record and is third all-time in wins at RIT with 21.
RIT, 9-7-2 overall, was selected to host the 2008 ECAC Upstate Tournament. The Tigers, seeded second, will play #3 Medaille in the first semifinal on Saturday at 11 a.m. SUNY Brockport, the #1 seed will play either #4 SUNY Potsdam or #5 Sage Colleges in the second semifinal at 1:30 p.m. The two semifinal winners will play for the championship on Sunday at 12 p.m.
