SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - The RIT men's cross country team had its quest for five straight Empire 8 team titles snaped on Saturday, as they finished second behind Ithaca and ninth overall out of 26 teams at the Empire 8/Saratoga Invitational held at Saratoga Spa State Park.
The Tigers finished recorded a team score of 252 points in the Saratoga Invitational. Keene State College won the team title with 62 points. Ithaca was the top Empire 8 team, placing third with 122 points.
Senior
Mike Brindak (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) was RIT's top finisher and placed fourth among all Empire runners and 25th overall, completing the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26:13.84. He will earn All-Empire 8 first team honors.
Zach Miller (Ironville, PA/Hempfield) and
Jon Grossman (Portsmouth, NH/Portsmouth) earned All-Empire 8 second team honors after finishing eighth and 12th among all conference runners. Miller was 47th overall in a time of 26:40.87, while Grossman was 51st in 26:56.68.
Freshman
Mike Kurvach (Victor, NY/Victor) placed 70th overall in 27:08, while
Nick Meeker (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) was 92nd in 27:30.21.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, November 8, as they travel to Clinton, N.Y. to compete in the NYSCTC Championships at 12 p.m.
