ITHACA, NY - The RIT volleyball team (15-19, 4-2 Empire 8) kept its bid for an Empire 8 playoff berth alive on Friday, winning a pair of dramatic, five-game thrillers against Elmira College and Hartwick College in Empire 8 crossover play at Ithaca College. RIT scored the final eight points after falling behind 14-8 in the fifth and deciding contest against Hartwick.
Against Elmira, the Tigers lost game one, 25-18, before coming back to win the next two games, 25-9, 27-25. Elmira won game four 25-19 and led game five 7-2 before the Tigers roared back to win, 15-12.
RIT took the lead for good in the Ithaca match, 11-10 in game five after trailing 7-2 on a kill by #
Heidi Little (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake)# (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) off an assist from

Ashlie Baker (Northridge, UT/Northridge) (Northridge, UT/Northridge) combined to secure the match, blocking an attempt by Elmira's Susan Clark.
Vic Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) led the way offensively with 19 kills and a season-high 11 assisted blocks. Boxler nearly had a quadruple double, with 47 assists, nine digs, eight blocks and seven kills.
Freshman
Dani Liesman (Ridgecrest, CA/Burroughs) (Ridgecrest, CA/Burroughs) had 20 digs and 12 kills, while Little chipped in with 12 kills.
Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) tied her career-high with 28 digs.
Kate Gleason (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) compiled 16 digs and three service aces.
In the match against Hartwick, RIT grabbed a 25-22 win in game one, before Hartwick annexed the next two games, 32-30 and 25-18. The Tigers dominated in game five, 25-9 and won game five, 16-14.
Petko had 19 kills and eight blocks, while Liesman recorded 20 digs and eight kills. Boxler dished out 39 assists to do along with 12 digs and seven blocks. Henriksen led RIT with 23 digs.
The Tigers are right back in actionon Saturday, with matches against Alfred and Nazareth.
