ROCHESTER, NY - Senior goalkeeper Ashley Conti (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland)(Canfield, OH/Canfield) of the RIT women's soccer team was named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for the week ending October 19, 2008.  It is the third Defensive Player of the Week earned by a Tiger player this season.

Conti stopped five shots to earn the shutout win over Stevens on Saturday, as RIT prevailed 1-0 to move into third place in the Empire 8 standings.  In addition, Conti made a pair of saves in the second half of a 1-0 win over SUNY Oswego on Tuesday.  She improves to 3-4-1 this season with a 1.89 goals against average.

RIT (7-5-2, 3-1-1 Empire 8) is back in action on Wednesday, as they travel to Alfred to play the Saxons in an Empire 8 matchup at 7 p.m.  A win would move RIT closer to clinching a playoff berth in the Empire 8.
