Women's Tennis Finishes 2008 Season at NYS Division III Women's Tennis Championships

ITHACA, NY - The RIT women's tennis team had a strong showing at the season ending 2008 New York State Division III Women's Tennis Championship at the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell on Friday and Saturday.  Three singles players advanced with wins in the first round, and one doubles team advanced to the semi-finals.

The morning opened with a tough loss for sophomore #Amanda Berg# (Mendham, NJ/Mendham), falling to NYU in the first round 3-6, 6-3, 2-6.  She ends her season with a 15-3 mark.  Singles wins came in straight sets from second, fourth and sixth singles.  Senior #Brianne Francisco (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam)# (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) picked it up at second, defeating her consistent opponent from Nazareth 6-2, 6-4.  Sophomore #Michele Caporali (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott)# (Endicott/Union Endicott) defeated her opponent from Ithaca 6-3, 7-5 and senior #Sara Paduano (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda)# (N. Tonawanda, NY/N. Tonawanda) took on St. John Fisher, winning 7-5, 6-2. 

The second doubles duo of senior #Kseniya Klyachko (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro)# (Whitesboro, NY / Whitesboro) and junior #Alexis Stanley (Vestal, NY/Vestal)# (Vestal, NY/Vestal) advance to the semi-finals on Saturday after winning their first two rounds today.  To open, the women stole a win from SUNY Brockport, defeating them 8-4.  They then met tough opponents from William Smith, but played strong and came out on top, winning 8-2.  The duo will face first seed Vassar in the semis.

Both first and third doubles had successful showings in their first rounds, but suffered tough losses in their second.  The first doubles team of Berg and Francisco rallied to defeat their opponents from St. Lawrence 8-6, later falling to William Smith with the same score.  The third doubles duo of Paduano and fellow senior #JoJo Cash# (Rochester, NY/Brighton) advanced to the second round after handing St. John Fisher a loss 8-2, but were halted when they met the number one seed, Vassar, losing with the same score.

The Tigers ended the season with a 9-4 record and were the runner-ups in the Empire 8.
