NEW YORK, NY -
The RIT Women's Volleyball team (18-4, 2-0 Empire 8) earned a split at the NYU Invitational on Friday evening, defeating St. John Fisher 30-20, 19-30, 30-20, 30-15 and falling to #6 NYU 28-30, 20-30, 36-34, 30-32.

The win over St. John Fisher was RIT's second over the Cardinals in three days (RIT won in four games on Tuesday evening).  Katie Werner (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) led RITwith 44 assists and recorded 12 digs.  Christina Anabel (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) slammed 20 kills to g along with 10 digs and four aces.

Versus NYU, the Tigers extended the top-ranked team in New York State and sixth rated team in all of Division III to four games and nearly a fifth.  Laurie Underhill (East Aurora, NY/Mt. Mercy) (East Aurora, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led RIT with 16 kills and five blocks.  Laura Grell (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) picked up 21 digs, while Werner dished out 40 assists.

RIT is back in action on Saturday, playing three matches.  The Tigers start the day with a 10 a.m. match versus #9 Elmhurst College.  At noon, RIT plays Plymouth State and ends the day with a 2 p.m. match versus Emmanuel College.
