TROY, NY – The RIT women's track and field team placed fourth out of eight teams at the 2019 Liberty League Outdoor Track Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at Harkness Field on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on May 3-4.
Ithaca won its second consecutive Liberty League Championship, scoring 295.5 team points to defeat Rochester and host RPI. The Tigers recorded 94.5 points.
Harley Wilson (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) won her second consecutive Liberty League Championship in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line more than three seconds ahead of the field in a meet-record time of 1:01.87. It is her season-best time and is currently the fifth-fastest time in Division III.
Madeline Pizzo (Irondequoit, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) won her second Liberty League Championship, taking the shot put with a personal best throw of 12.75 meters.
Samantha Kaplan (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) and Pizzo combined to score 9.5 points in the pole vault. Kaplan finished third, clearing 3.46 meters, while Pizzo tied for fifth, surpassing 3.31 meters.
Sophomore
Colleen Eckl (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) broke a school record in the triple jump, leaping 11.36 meters to finish second in the event. She shattered
Jess Calzolari's (Longmont, CO/Mead) previous school record of 11.26 meters, set in 2017.
Darcy DeAngelis (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) earned a strong fourth place finish with a leap of 11.00 meters, while
Kathryn Vogl (West Seneca, NY/St. Mary's) was seventh, leaping 10.84 meters.
Jaimie Polanco (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley ) finished third in the 800-meters, crossing the finish line in a personal-best time of 2:18.70.
The 4 x 100-meter relay team of
Emily Bernabeo (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West), Wilson, Eckl and
Ali Binga (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) finished fourth with a time of 50.90 seconds. The same quartet recorded a third place finish in the 4 x 400-meter relay, crossing the finish line in 4:02.21.
Eckl also placed fourth in the 400-meter dash, finishing in a time of 1:00.70.
Becca Schwan (LeRoy, NY/LeRoy) earned a fifth-place finish in the 1,500-meters, recording a time of 4:48.75. Classmate
Martine Bosch (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) was right behind in seventh, finishing in 4:50.84.
Julie McGlensey (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) finished fifth overall in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.86 seconds after recording a time of 15.68 seconds in the prelims yesterday.
Senior
Darcy DeAngelis (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) recorded RIT's best on Friday, placing third in the long jump with a personal best leap of 5.48 meters. That is a top-50 long jump in Division III this season.
Freshman
Olivia Spencer (Shortsville, NY/Red Jacket) earned a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in a time of 11:35.81.
Danielle Wallace (East Chatham, NY/Chatham) finished ninth in a time of 11:57.83.
Alaina Celeste (Oswego, NY/Oswego) (40:38.21) and
Nicole Mackey (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) (40:57.37) were 12th and 13th, respectively, in the 10,000-meter run.
Hayley Richardson (Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk) finished tenth overall in the javelin throw, firing it 27.21 meters, while
Rachel Goldberg (Olney, MD/Sherwood) was 13th. Goldberg was also 10th in the discus.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, May 11 at the Geneseo Last Chance Invitational.
