No. 3 men's lacrosse rolls to win at Clarkson in Liberty League opener

Tigers improve to 4-0 on the season

POTSDAM, NY -- The No. 3 RIT (4-0, 1-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team opened Liberty League play with a convincing 18-8 win at Clarkson University (3-1, 0-1 Liberty League) Saturday afternoon.

Four Tigers tallied five points Saturday. Cam Isaac (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) tallied four goals and added an assist, while Ryan Barnable (Whitby, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) and Dawson Tait (Ottawa, Ontario/Mother Teresa) each had three goals and two assists and Shawn Nally (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) dished out a career-high five assists. Ryan Tandy (Montrose, NY/Hendrick-Hudson) added four goals, while Quinn Commandant (Rockwood, Ontario/The Kiski School) tallied two goals and added an assist.

Shots were 52-41 in favor of RIT, who won the ground ball battle 45-26. The Tigers won 19-of-26 face-offs and went 21-of-25 on clearing attempts. Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) got the in net, making 14 saves over the first 54 minutes. Holden McDonald (Toronto, Ontatrio/St. Mary Catholic) stopped a pair of shots over the final six minutes. Nick Montemorano (Victor, NY/Victor) won 12-of-18 draws and had six ground balls, while Landon Nolta (Highlands Ranch, CO/Mountain Vista) added seven face-off wins. Chandler Allen (Ilderon, Ontario/Medway) caused a pair of turnovers for the Tigers.

Tanner Cioffi, Evan Burgett and Pierre Currie each scored two goals for the Golden Knights. Kevin Dyckman took the loss in net despite making 18 saves.

Isaac scored twice in the first quarter as RIT led 6-2 after first 15 minutes. Tait gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead on his goal two minutes into the contest off an assist from Nally. After a Clarkson goal tied the game at 1-1, the Tigers scored two straight, taking a 3-1 lead on Tandy's first goal of the season with 8:48 to play. Burgett tallied to cut the RIT lead to 3-2, but RIT closed the quarter on a three-goal spurt, taking a 6-2 lead. Commandant and Barnable each scored in the second quarter for RIT, while Currie tallied for the Golden Knights to make it 8-3 Tigers at halftime.

Isaac increased the RIT lead to 9-3 on his goal early in the third quarter. Cioffi scored two straight for Clarkson, cutting the RIT lead to 9-5 on his goal with 10:22 to play in the quarter. RIT would gon an 9-2 run to put the game away. Barnable and Nally hooked up for two straight goals, and Tandy tallied a late goal to increase the RIT lead to 14-7 off an assist from Montemorano with 27 seconds to play.

RIT scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter to put the game away. Tait opened the quarter with two straight goals, while Ryan Agedal (LaFayette, NY/LaFayette) and Spencer Bell (Fairport, NY/Fairport) tacked on late goals to make it an 18-8 final

RIT returns to action on Friday, March 15 when the Tigers face No. 6 York College at 6:15 p.m. at the 2019 Mustang Classic on the campus of Stevenson University.
