ITHACA, NY – The RIT men's swimming and diving team is currently third out of nine teams after Friday's action at the 2019 Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championship from the Kelsey Bird Partridge Natatorium on the campus of Ithaca College. RIT broke two school records on Friday.
RIT has 858 points, third behind defending champion Rensselaer, who has 1,196 points, while host Ithaca is second with 986 points.
Sophomore
Eric Moss (Irvington, NY/Irvington) broke his own school record in the 200-yard butterfly by over a second with a time of 1:53.17 in the preliminaries. Moss would place fourth in the finals with a time of 1:53.58.
Wil Seifried (Springfield, PA/Springfield) placed 15th, while
Keanu Pagano (Oxnard, CA/Oxnard) finished 18th in the event.
RIT's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Moss,
Mark Truskinovsky (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North),
Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) and
Braden Feasley (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) smashed a six-year old school record by just under a second in the event, finishing second overall in a snappy time of 6:59.69.
Carl Schlehr (Maineville, OH/Kings) posted an impressive fourth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, recording a time of 58.34 seconds. Thomas Richter finished 11th overall in a time of 1:01.22.
Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods) and
Will Brown (Boulder, CO/Fairview) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke. Rothrock, RIT's record holder in the event, posted a time of 53.14 seconds to place sixth, while Brown was right behind, 31 one-hundredths of a second back.
Tyler Schwarz (Stanley, NY/Marcus Whitman) and
Scott Brink (Quincy, MA/Boston College) also scored for the Tigers in the event.
The fourth and final day of the 2019 Liberty League Championships begins with preliminary action on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday's finals action starts at 6 p.m.
