ROCHESTER, NY – Former RIT men's hockey standout
Myles Powell (Courtenay, British Columbia/Cowichan Valley Capitals) signed a professional contract with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League for the 2018-19 season.
The 2016 Atlantic Hockey Championship Most Valuable Player, Powell finished his RIT career with 45 goals and 60 assists for 105 points in 149 games. Powell, a two-year captain, is tied for second at RIT's Division I level with nine game-winning goals and four shorthanded tallies. Powell was part of a senior class that won two Atlantic Hockey titles and made two trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Powell enjoyed a tremendous senior season for the Tigers in 2017-18, finishing second on the team in scoring with 39 points on 13 goals and a team-high 26 assists in 37 games. A candidate for the 2018 Hobey Baker Award, Powell won 57 percent of his face-offs on the season and had nine multiple-point games. On Feb. 24, 2018, Powell became the 10th player in RIT's Division I history to reach 100 career points.
He had 10 points as a freshman in 2014-15 and enjoyed a breakout season in 2015-16, scoring a career-high 15 goals with adding 17 assists in 39 games and was plus-12. Powell added 13 goals and 24 points in 2016-17 before tallying 39 points last season.
Powell appeared in four games with the Amerks last season while on a Professional Tryout. Additionally, he recorded three points in five contests for the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL) before adding two assists during the Cyclones' first-round playoff series.
RIT, the 2010, 2015, and 2016 Atlantic Hockey Champions, finished the 2017-18 season with 15 wins and advanced to the First Round of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament.
