ROCHESTER, NY - First-year grappler Chris Horton (Athens, PA/Athens Area) of the RIT wrestling team was named the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, for the week ending Dec. 9, 2018. It is Horton's first weekly accolade of his collegiate career.

Horton earned a dramatic win at 133 lbs. over Brockport's Eli Sims in the opening match of the evening last Thursday, tying the match with an escape with 45 seconds and then picking up the 3-1 win with a takedown, 8.9 seconds into overtime. RIT defeated Brockport 28-6 for its first win over the Golden Eagles since 1998-99.

Horton is now 11-5 at 133 lbs. this season, including a 4-0 mark in dual matches. He has three wins by fall.

RIT is back in action on Dec. 28-29, competing at the Citrus Open in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
