GENEVA, NY – The Tiger Oarsmen struggled to keep pace at the Hobart William Smith Canal Challenge, Saturday, October 8. The men's varsity eight finished fourth in a four-boat field with crews from Marietta, Hobart, and Ithaca. The men's varsity four finished last among eight boats.

Fielding Confer (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights), three seat,
Keith Martin (Poughkeepsie, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes), two seat,
Eric Schulken (Mount Pleasant, SC/Academic Magnet), and bow seat, Bobby Jones. The four finished in a time of 20:06.
“The men were flat today," said Head Coach
Jim Bodenstedt. "We raced hard but that is usually never enough. The chemistry of a boat is equally important. Because the varsity eight has spent the last couple of weeks training in fours, the skills we learned there haven't transferred into the eight just yet. But they will. We need patience and more time rowing in the eight. All the same, the oarsmen in the four didn't spend much time together because of an injury and being short one guy. Now that we are healthy again and have twelve solid rowers, there will be more competition for seats, which generally means more speed. After the races we talked about what we need to start doing, stop doing, and continue to do as a crew. We're disappointed in our performances today, but we haven't lost faith in ourselves.”
This week the Tiger Oars will be preparing for our local Head of the Genesee Regatta, Saturday, October 15.
