Women's crew enjoys good performance at Head of the Genesee Regatta

ROCHESTER, NY - The Tiger Oarswomen battled wind and rain in their third race of the fall season at the Head of the Genesee Regatta on Saturday, October 15. The varsity eight and second eight raced in the morning head race finishing sixth and twelfth respectively.
 
Seated in the varsity eight was coxswain Eileen Kobal (Erie, PA/Fairview) (Erie, PA/Fairview), followed by stroke seat, Kristin Roberts (Skaneatles, NY/Skaneatles), seven seat, Reba Conway (Grand Island/Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart), six seat, Sabine Loebner (Leisning, Germany/Lessing-Gymnasium Doebeln), five seat, Devan Musa (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca), four seat, Morgan Mowins (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius ), three seat, Kelsey Rainie (Concord, NH/Concord), two seat, Nicole Conway (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy), and bow seat, Brooke Van-Derpoel (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) (Frederick, MD/Governor).
 
The varsity boat finished in a time of 18:42.23, with William Smith finishing first.
 
Seated in the second eight was coxswain, Wendy Gutcher (Fairfax Station, VA/South County) (Fairfax Station, VA/South County), followed by stroke seat, Allison Doster (Syracuse, NY/LaFayette), seven seat, Emily Burns (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck), (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck), six seat, Sam Deakin (Clarence, NY/Clarence), five seat, Alex Kilgore (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), four seat, Sarah Crosby (Upton, MA/Nipmuc Regional), three seat, Anna-Marie Lee (Newcastle, ME/Lincoln Academy), two seat, Katie Bonfiglio (Bedford, NH/Bedford), and bow seat, Sarah Hadley (Monument, CO/Lewis Palmer).
 
The second eight finished in a time of 19:46.95.
 
Head Coach Jim Bodenstedt was pleased with the women's performance.
 
“The weather was tough for all the crews, but I thought we did a nice job in handling the wind and pushing near the end of the race to edge our way past the University of Rochester," said Bodenstedt.  "Learning how to race in changing conditions better prepares us for spring racing.”
 
Next up the Tiger Oarswomen will end their fall training season at the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, NY October 29.
