ITHACA, NY -- Junior Mike Hardbarger (Parkersburg, WV/Ritchie County) broke a 23-year old record in the 3,000-meter run, as the RIT men's indoor track and field team had a bevy of excellent showings at the Kane Invitational hosted by Division I Cornell University on Saturday.  There was an assortment of Division I, II and III teams competing at this meet.

Hardbarger was RIT's lone winner on the day, as he led from start to finish in the 3,000 meter run, winning by 12 seconds.  His time of 8:31.39 erased a school record set by RIT Hall of Famer and All-American Paul Ruston, who set the mark in 1985.  Andrew Varble (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) was third in the race, with a time of 8:46.85.

Senior Jimmy Sorel (Brockport, NY/Brockport) had a great showing in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, completing the sprint in 8.49 seconds to earn the second fastest time.  He did not compete in the final.

Zach Loughery (Wantage, NJ/High Point) finished 12th in the 200-meter dash, while Querstein Smith (Uniondale, NY/Uniondale) was 10th in the 400-meters 

Ryan Warner, Seth Whitaker (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and Jonathan Sealander (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal) were third, fourth and fifth respectively in the 500-meters.  Warner completed the race in a time of 1:07.28, Whitaker in 1:08, while Sealander went in 1:08.68.

Dereck Bojanowski (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) was second in the 5,000-meters with a time of 15:29.44.  Peder Johnson (Tolland, CT/Tolland) was right behind in third, four seconds back.

Nick Meeker (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) was 11th in the 1,000-meters, completing the race in 2:35.76.

Marc O'Donnell (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) placed seventh in the 800-meters in 1:58.75.

The 4 x 400-meter relay team was third in a time of 3:27.53.

The Tigers are back in action in Ithaca on Saturday, as they compete at the Denault Invitational hosted by Cornell University.
