ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomores
Amy Adams (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) and
Sedera Zbranak (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) will represent RIT swimming at the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, which will take place from Wednesday, March 15 to Saturday, March 18 at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.
Action begins each day with trials, starting at 11 a.m. EST, with the championship events resuming at 7 p.m. EST.
Adams will compete in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, and the 200-yard breaststroke. The 50-yard freestyle is Wednesday, 100-yard breaststroke is Friday, and 200-yard breaststroke takes place Saturday.
Adams broke a pair of individual school marks and was part of two record-setting relay teams at the 2017 UNYSCSA Championships in Ithaca from Feb. 15-18. Adams was runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke, breaking her own school mark with a time of 1:03.66. Adams also broke her own school record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.04. She was part of the record-setting 200-yard medley relay (1:45.76) and 400-yard medley relay (3:54.78).
Overall, Adams is seeded 19th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 27th in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Zbranak will compete in the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, and 200-yard backstroke. The 200-yard freestyle starts Thursday, 100-yard backstroke is Friday, and 200-yard backstroke takes place Saturday.
Zbranak broke three individual school marks and was part of four record-setting relay teams at the 2017 UNYSCSA Championships in Ithaca from Feb. 15-18. She became RIT's first swimmer to win an individual event at the state meet since 2010, while recording a pair of runner-up finishes. Zbranak won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.62 and was runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (56.97) and 200-backstroke (2:03.35). She was part of four record setting relay teams, including the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.76), 400-yard medley relay (3:54.78), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:34.11) and 800-yard free relay (7:48.16).
Overall, Zbranak is seeded 20th in the 200-free and 27th in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events.
Last year,
Natalie Snyder (Rockville, MD/Rockville) became the first women's diver in program history to earn All-American honors. The women's swimming and diving program has had a long and proud history, with 15 different All-Americans.
