ROCHESTER, NY – Senior distance runner Mike Kurvach (Victor, NY/Victor) and sophomore pole vaulter Nick Perez (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) were honored as the 2013 Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Track Performer and Rookie of the Year, respectively, as the league announced its award winners on Friday, June 7.

Kurvach was the 2013 Liberty League Outdoor Field Athlete of the Meet on April 20. He began with a win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in an ECAC Championship qualifying time of 9:25.07, then placed third in the 1,500-meters in a time of 4:05.83, and wrapped up his day with a win in the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:26.31. Later in the season, Kurvach won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the ECAC Championships in a time of 9:09.62, which just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Kurvach was also second in both the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meters at the 2013 NYSCTC Championships. Kurvach was a four-time RIT Male Athlete of the Week and three-time Liberty League Athlete of the Week selection. He also finished ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Division I Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University. Earlier in the year, Kurvach earned All-American honors during the indoor season, as part of RIT's distance medley relay team that placed seventh at the 2013 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.

Perez was the champion of the pole vault at the 2013 Liberty League Championships with a vault of 4.05 meters. Perez also shared the win at the 2013 NYSCTC Championships with a leap of 4.20 meters (he did clear 4.30 meters) in the jump off in that event.

RIT finished second at the 2013 Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championships and fourth at the NYSCTC Championships.
