Schlattman, Yokoyama, and Paton win 2013 RIT Women's Hockey team awards

ROCHESTER, NY - Seniors #Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury) and Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects)#, along with freshman #Jess Paton (Woodstock, Ontario/Waterloo K-W Rangers)# were honored, as the RIT women's hockey team announced its 2012-13 award winners at its end of the season banquet on April 27.

Schlattman, a senior captain, was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Schlattman, who was team captain in both 2011-12 and 2012-13 and assistant captain in 2010-11, enjoyed an excelent senior season, leading the team with 16 goals, including six power-play tallies and four game-winners. On Jan. 4, Schlattman became the ninth player in the history of the RIT women's hockey program to record 100 career points in a 2-1 win over Robert Morris. On March 2, Schlattman scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Tigers past Penn State and on to the College Hockey America Semifinals.

For her career, Schlattman was a three-time ECAC West/CHA Player of the Week, the 2009-10 ECAC West Rookie of the Year, 2012 ECAC West Most Outstanding Player, and captain of the 2012 NCAA Division III Champions. She scored 41 goals and added 72 assists for 113 points in 120 career games.

Yokoyama, a senior assistant captain, earned the Unsung Hero award. In 2012-13, Yokoyama shuttled between defense and forward and recorded a career-high six goals to go along with 18 assists for 24 points in 36 games, while playing at a plus-5. On Feb. 15, Yokoyama tied a career-high with three assists and became the 12th player in the history of RIT women's hockey to surpass 100 career points in a 3-1 win over Penn State.

In four seasons at RIT, Yokoyama tallied 102 points on 13 goals and 89 assists. The 89 assists are second most in program history. She holds the RIT record for longest point-scoring streak at 23 games, spanning the final nine games of 2010-11 and first 14 games of 2011-12 and also holds the school's longest consecutive assist-scoring streak at 14 games. Yokoyama was named to the ECAC West All-Rookie Team in 2010 and was an assistant captain of the 2012 NCAA Division III Champions.

Paton, a freshman forward, won the team's Rookie of the Year award. In 35 games played, Paton tallied four goals and three assists, cementing a role on a very consistent line with #Erin Zach (Elmira, Ontario/Cambridge Fury) and Marissa Maugeri (Ajax, Ontario/Durham West Lightning)# during the second half of the season. Paton scored her first collegiate goal in a 5-1 win over Lindenwood on Dec. 15 and recorded a career-best two assists in a win over Penn State on Feb. 16. Paton also scored a big goal in a 3-2 win over Penn State in game two of the CHA First Round series.

The Tigers finished the 2012-13 season, their first in Division I, with a 16-16-5 record. RIT finished tied for third in the College Hockey America standings and advanced to the conference semifinals.
