ADA, OHIO -- Several wrestlers from the RIT wrestling team had a chance to make the NCAA Division III Championships with solid performances at the 2013 NCAA Regional Qualier hosted by Ohio Northern on Saturday. The top three finishers in each weight class qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 15-16.

Rory Bruce (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda)# had a chance at 133 lbs. After receiving the first round bye, Bruce, the eight seed, defeated top seed Alex Crown from Waynesburg 7-5 in the second round. Bruce was defeated by #4 Chad Lammer from Elizabethtown 8-4 in the semifinals. He still has a chance at finishing in the top three if he can defeat Nick Sutton of Thiel College in the consolation round.

Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne)#, the third seed at 149 lbs., went 1-2 on Saturday. He defeated Alex Powell from Washington & Jefferson with a 14-0 major decision in his first round match. He lost to #6 Luke Lohr of Waynesburg in the second round, 7-4. Mayville finished his day with 10-8 loss to Zack McCormick from Muskingum, 10-8.

Sean Sercu (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) went 2-3 at 165 lbs. He was defeated by (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes)2 Ricardo Plummer of Messiah 8-1 in his opening round match. He beat Steven Baker of Lycoming 3-0 in the consolation round, and followed that up with a 4-0 win over #1 seed Justin Wharton of Heidelberg, 4-0.Sercu finished the day with a 4-1 loss to Aaron Dudley of Brockport.
Nick Fish posted a 1-2 record at 174 lbs., losing to #3 Zeke Zimmer of Elizabethtown with a 13-1 major decision. He defeated Ryan Brubaker in his first consolation match with an 8-3 win, but was pinned at 1:56 in his next match by Jonathan Secor of Lycoming College.

Jake Swearingen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made a nice run at 197 lbs. going 2-2 on the day. Swearingen was defeated by (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes)5 Nick Rajcsak with a 19-4 technical fall in his openeing round match. He defeated Nikolas Christine of Lycoming 17-10 in his first match in the consolation round, and won over Kyle Minogue of York after a medical forfeit. Swearingen wrapped up his day with a 10-1 major decision loss to Matt Lashway of Brockport.
