ROCHESTER, NY - Senior pitcher
Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) of the RIT softball team was named the Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week on Monday, for the week ending May 8, 2011. It is Cole's third weekly honor of the season and fourth of her career.
Cole was brilliant in leading the Tigers to runner-up honors at the 2011 Empire 8 Championship. She opened by throwing a one-hit shutout in a 10-0 win over Stevens, then fired a two-hitter in a 1-0 win over Ithaca. Cole threw three scoreless innings in an 8-4 win over Fisher on Saturday, then had her 10-game winning streak snapped, throwing a strong five-hit complete game in a 2-1 loss to the Cardinals in the Empire 8 Championship.
Cole finished 14-4 this season. Over her last 14 appearances, Cole was 10-1 with a 0.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, recorded four shutouts, and tossed 11 complete games, spanning 84 1/3 innings. She finishes her career second all-time at RIT in wins (46), shutouts (15), complete games (71), and innings pitched (568).
The Tigers finished the season with a 24-12 record, advancing to the Empire 8 Championship game for the first time since the 2003 season.
