Men's Cross Country Completes 2011 Season

The RIT men's cross country team completed a successful 2011 campaign, finishing the season with a slew of impressive showings.
 
The Tigers began the season with a third place finish at the Brockport Invitational, followed by a fourth place showing at the RPI Invitational.  The following week they finished fifth out of 16 teams at the Highlander Invitational.  The Tigers finished fourth at the NYSCTC Championships, fifth at the Liberty League Championships and 15th at the NCAA District Qualifier to close out the season.
 
Sophomore Matt Giannino (Syracuse, NY /Christian Brothers Academy) was stellar for the Tigers all season, earning USTFCCCA All-Region honors.  He finished in second at the RPI Invitational with a time of 25:46.0, a season-best, and earned Liberty League Performer of the Week.  He finished ninth at the NYSCTC Championships, earning RIT Male Athlete of the Week honors, and was RIT's top performer at the NCAA District Qualifier, finishing in 26th.
 
Senior Mike Kurvach (Victor, NY/Victor) enjoyed a tremendous year, battling with Giannino at every meet.  He finished in sixth at the RPI Invitational, his best finish of the season.  Kurvach finished in 12th at the Paul Short Invitational, completed the course in 26:03.0, his fastest of the season.  He finished in 68th at the NCAA District Qualifier.
 
Freshman Kyle Reid (Victor, NY/Victor) had an impressive rookie season, earning All-Liberty League second team honors.  His best time came at the Highlander Invitational, where he completed the race in 26:27.99, finishing in ninth and earning Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors.
 
Sam Rondeau (Lyme, NH/Thetford Academy), John Quatroche (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme), Paul Snell (Kendall, NY/Kendall Jr/Sr High School), Michael Krenzer (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta), Michael Peterson, Josh Barber (Lansing, NY/Lansing), Michael Krenzer (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta), Andrew Bernardo (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) and Ben Castro were strong all season and will be looked at to contribute next season.
