Men’s Cross Country Finishes 15th at NCAA District Championship

CANTON, NY –
The RIT men's cross country team placed 15th out of 40 teams at the 2011 NCAA District Championship hosted by St, Lawrence on a cool, sunny, Saturday afternoon.
 
The Tigers recorded a team score of 430 points, as St. Lawrence won with a team score of 89 points.
 
Sophomore Matt Giannino (Syracuse, NY /Christian Brothers Academy) was RIT's best finisher and has an outside chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships, as he finished 26th overall out of 272 runners, blazing the 8,000-meter course in an impressive time of 26:11.6. 
 
Senior Mike Kurvach (Victor, NY/Victor) was RIT's second best finisher, placing 68th overall in 26:52.9.  Freshman Kyle Reid (Victor, NY/Victor) was 97th overall, finishing in 27:19.8.  Andrew Bogdan (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) was 116th in 27:36.7, and Sam Rondeau (Lyme, NH/Thetford Academy) was 123rd, six seconds behind Bogdan to round out RIT's top-five.
 
Michael Peterson and Josh Barber (Lansing, NY/Lansing) also raced for RIT, placing 138th and 153rd, respectively.

Giannino will find out he if advances to the NCAA Championship on Sunday at 3 p.m.  The championship will be raced on Saturday, November 19 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
