ROCHESTER, NY - Sophomore Jennifer Adams of the RIT women's track and field team and juniors
Matt Marion (Lima, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Michael Dempsey of the men's squad will compete in the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio from Thursday, May 27 - Saturday, May 29. Adams and Dempsey also represented RIT at the 2010 Indoor Championships in March, while Marion participated in the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Adams will compete in the long jump, which will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. She has the 12th best leap of the season, jumping 5.79 meters at the NYC Qualifying Challenge on May 8. During the indoor season, Adams broke the school record and qualified for the NCAA's with a leap of 5.63 meters at the NYSCTC Championships on Feb. 26. It is her second trip to the NCAA Championship.
Marion will compete in the 400-meter hurdles for the second straight season. The trials get underway on Thursday at 5:20 p.m., with the championships getting underway on Saturday at 3:25 p.m. This season, he has a top time of 53.14 seconds in the event, set on May 20 at the Oneonta May meet. That time is the 14th best in Division III. Last year, Marion finished fifth in his heat with a time of 53.38 seconds. He has a career-best time of 53.07 seconds, set last year in the event.
Dempsey will compete in the pole vault on Thursday at 5 p.m. Dempsey, who finished second and earned All-American honors at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships, has the third best leap in the nation during the outdoor season, at 5.10 meters, set at the ECAC Championships on May 13. Dempsey holds the RIT indoor and outdoor records in the pole vault. He has not lost a meet during the outdoor season, including a victory in the prestigious Penn Relays on April 23.
