SPRINGFIELD, MA - Senior
Jamie Morey (LeRoy, NY/Notre Dame) led the way for the women's track and field team at the ECAC Championship meet as she was the lone scorer for the team. Morey placed sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.33 meters. Morey has one more chance to improve her positioning on the NCAA performance list. If she does so, Morey could make her first appearance at the NCAA Championship Meet.
Freshmen
Rachel Zoyhofski (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and
Courtney Saunders (Canyon Country, CA/Canyon) both had great individual performances at their first ECAC outdoor competition. Both athletes qualified for the indoor championships as well, an accomplishment not many freshman athletes achieve. Zoyhosfki set a new personal record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:47.34. Saunders was 16 in the shot put competition with a toss of 11.24 meters.
The 4x400-meter relay consisting of
Abby Arday (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder),
Nicole Varble (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta),
Jillian Putney (Dansville, NY/Dansville), and
Alex Bush (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII) also set a relay best as they accumulated a final time of 4:08.25.
A select few will be competing next week at the Oneonta Last Chance Twilight Meet. The meet will take place on Thursday and begins at 2 p.m.
