ROCHESTER, NY - Four members of the RIT men's tennis earned All-Empire 8 honors on Thursday, as the league doled out its 2010 postseason awards. Senior
John Albers (Grands Rapids, MI/Forest Hills), sophomores
Clayton Tontarski (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta), and
Larry Hall (Fairport, NY/Fairport), along with freshman
Neville Bilimoria (Mumbai/Schiller International) garnered honorable mention accolades.
Billimoria who was an honorable mention on both singles and doubles, was 2-1 at first singles, and picked up four wins at second singles. He also partnered with Tontarski to finish 5-2 in doubles play. The duo was an honorable mention selection at the doubles position. Tontarski recorded six wins, shuttling between third and fourth singles to also earn honorable mention singles accolades.
Albers and Hall enjoyed tremendous success, going 7-1 in the second doubles position to earn honorable mention accolades.
Hall was also RIT's representative as the Empire 8 Sportsperson of the Year. The Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
RIT recorded a 5-3 mark in Empire 8 play, winning its five matches by a combined score of 39-6. The Tigers won their final two conference matches to qualify for the postseason and finished 7-7 in 2010.
