Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) of the RIT women's swimming and diving squad was named the winner of the 2010 Barbara Radef Award. The award is given out by the UNYSCSA (Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association) to a graduating senior, who was successful in the classroom and enjoyed distinguished performances at the state and national levels.
Burr, who was named the 2010 RIT Female Athlete of the Year, enjoyed another tremendous season. Burr, a two-time honorable mention All-American, won 35 events, and made her her third straight appearance at the NCAA Championships. Burr finished 22nd in the 200-yard individual medley, 25th overall in the 100-yard butterfly, and 20th in the 200-yard butterfly. Burr recorded the eighth fastest time in the nation in the 200-individual medley (2:05.53). She was an honorable mention All-American last season in the same event last year.
Burr currently holds eight different individual RIT school records and five relay records. Burr, the 2009 UNYSCSA Swimmer of the Meet, repeated as champion in the 200-yard individual medley, was second in the 400-yard IM, and was second in the 200-yard butterfly coming home in a NCAA "B" cut qualifying time of 2:06.29 in 2010.
She holds a sparkling 3.76 grade-point average in accounting. She won six individual titles at the UNYSCSA Championships over her four seasons. She recorded four NCAA "A" cut and six "B" cut times over the last three seasons. She was the 2007 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, and a six-time All-Empire 8 first team selection. Burr was a 10-time Empire 8 Swimmer of the Week and was the RIT Female Athlete of the Week nine times during her illustrious career. In 2009, Burr garnered CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors as well.
