TROY, NY - The RIT women's track and field team placed fifth overall out of nine teams at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championship Meet, which was hosted by RPI. During the two day meet, the Tigers were able to accumulate 76 points. Ithaca swept the meet as they scored a total of 274 points.
Senior
Jamie Morey (LeRoy, NY/Notre Dame) was RIT's top performer. Morey, won the discus with a toss of 37.90 meters to secure the win. Freshman
Courtney Saunders (Canyon Country, CA/Canyon) also picked up some points in the event as she placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 35.96 meters. Saunders was also fourth in the shot put, tossing the shot 11.81 meters. This throw also qualified her for the ECAC Championship Meet. Morey also placed in the hammer throw on Friday. Morey was third in the event with a throw of 49.67 meters. Her throw also provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Championship Meet and is the 14th best in the nation currently.
Fellow thrower
Danielle Furman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) was third in the javelin. Furman threw the javelin 34.69 meters to secure the third place spot.
Sophomore Jennifer Adams was second in the long jump. Adams leaped to a distance of 5.53 meters. Adams also participated in the 4x100-meter relay, which finished fourth. Adams, along with
Abby Arday (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder),
Alexandra Bush (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII), and
Jillian Putney (Dansville, NY/Dansville), secured fourth with a time of 51.04 seconds. The relay team missed the ECAC qualifying time by just 0.04 seconds.
Putney qualified for the ECAC Championship Meet in her other two events; the 100-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay. Putney was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a final time of 16.30 seconds. Putney went into the race ranked ninth. Putney also assisted the 4x400 relay team to a fourth place finish. Putney and fellow teammates Arday,
Nicole Varble (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta), Bush accumulated a time of 4:08.86 to secure fourth and a spot at the ECAC Championship Meet.
Varble also had an outstanding performance in her individual race. Varble was fourth in the 800-meter race with a final time of 2:22.58. Freshman
Brianne Yannotta (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) also had a great race as she set a personal record and picked up a point for the team in the same race. Yannotta crossed the line in a time of 2:25.98, picking up eighth place.
Distance runners
Rachel Zoyhofsk (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta)i and
Anna Guthrie (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) also had great races. Both freshmen, the girls qualified for their first outdoor ECAC Championship Meet. Zoyhofski was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:56.62. Guthrie was eighth in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 40:14.63.
