GENESEO, NY - The RIT men's track and field had some great performances at the Geneseo Invitational on Saturday. Senior
Jared Burdick (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius), junior
Brecht Moulin (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough), and freshman
Cameron Lee (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) all won their events. Along with these three individuals, several other team members placed highly among the competition.
Burdick won the 5,000-meter dash, finishing the event in a stellar time. Burdick crossed the line in a time of 14:45.64. His time not only secured the win, it also gives Burdick the possibility to travel to the NCAA Championship Meet as he met the provisional qualifying time.
Moulin won his main event, the 400-meter dash. Moulin crossed the line in a time of 49.25 seconds. Besides the 400, Moulin also competed in the 200-meter dash and placed third overall. His time in the 200 was 22.45 seconds.
Lee won the 110-meter hurdles for the second week in a row. Lee glided over the hurdles to cross the line in a time of 15.33 seconds. Later in the day, Lee went on to race in the 400-meter hurdles, placing third. Lee's time for this race was 55.58 seconds; his fastest of the season.
Another notable performance in the running events came from sophomore
Sam Smolenski (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles). Smolenski broke two minutes in the 800-meter race and placed fifth overall. Smolenski crossed the line in a time of 1:58.26.
In the field events, senior
Chris Mieney (Greece, NY/Byron Bergen) was the top performer. Mieney was second in the pole vault, soaring to a height of 4.15 meters.
The throwers had some solid performances throughout the four different throwing events.
Tyler Kallen (/) was third in the javelin throw, chucking the javelin a distance of 47.49 meters. Junior
Brian Walker (Brockport, NY/Brockport) placed third as well in his event, the hammer throw. Walker flung the hammer 46.42 meters. Freshman
Mike Haynes (Groton, MA/Groton Dunstable) also performed well in the hammer, throwing the implement 41.48 meters. This distance secured him the fifth place position. Fellow classmate Shawheen Farzad placed fifth in the discus, letting the disc fly to a distance of 37.88 meters.
Jumpers
Seth Kane (Mount Upton, NY/Sidney),
Marquis Moore (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili), and
Matt DeRosa (Frostburg, MD/Beall ) all ranked highly in their events. Kane was fifth in the high jump, leaping to a height of 1.79 meters. Moore and DeRosa placed next to each other in the triple jump. Moore was fourth, bounding 12.88 meters. DeRosa was fifth with a final measure of 12.35 meters.
The men's track and field team will be back in action next Friday and Saturday as the travel to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the NYSCTC Championship Meet.
