NORTHAMPTON, MA - The women's track and field team had several strong showings at the ECAC Championship meet on Friday and Saturday at Smith College. Eight women travelled to the meet and the tigers were able to acquire five points in a very competitive meet. RIT finished 33rd out of 42 teams.
Sophomore
Jen Adams (Batavia, NY/Batavia) turned in another strong performance in the long jump on Saturday. Adams placed fourth overall, leaping 5.49 meters.
Courtney Saunders (Canyon Country, CA/Canyon) capped her freshman campaign with a solid performance in the shot put. Saunders placed eleventh in the event with a toss of 11.37 meters.
The 4x200-meter relay team of
Samantha Mitchell (Southlake, TX/Carroll),
Abby Arday (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder),
Caitlyn Peterson (Ontario, NY/Wayne), and
Jillian Putney (Dansville, NY/Dansville) recorded the top performance in the running events. The team placed 9th with a time of 1:48.05, and narrowly missed eighth by .02 seconds. Junior
Arielle Januszkiewicz (Amherst, NY/Amherst) and freshman
Rachel Zoyhofski (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) both ran the 3,000-meter race. Januszkiewicz placed 18th in the event with a time of 10:51.87 while Zoyhofski crossed the line in a time of 10:56.49, securing her the 20th place.
Weight thrower
Jamie Morey (LeRoy, NY/Notre Dame) and Adams will find out if they will be representing RIT at the NCAA Championships on Monday at 8 a.m., as the official NCAA Championships field will be announced at this time. Adams headed into this weekend's competition ranked sixth in the nation, while Morey was ranked twenty third. DePauw University in Indiana will play host to this year's championship meet.
