PHOENIX, AZ - The RIT baseball team (1-3) picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday after defeating St. John's (Minn.) University (5-1) by a score of 8-1 at the RussMatt Invitational. RIT scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to pull away.
Both teams scored in the second inning. After St. John's took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, RIT roared back with five in the top of the fourth inning to go up 6-2. Sophomore outfielder
Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) cleared the bases with a triple in the inning, giving RIT the lead for good.
RIT ripped a season-high 10 hits.
Ben Robertson (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) scored a career-best three runs and was 2-for-4 with a run batted in and stolen base.
Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia) was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Charles Yarrington (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) picked up the win on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits in four innings of relief. It was his first career win.
Jeff Bibbens (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) started, allowing five hits and one earned run in three innings.
Kyle Desrosiers (North Attleboro, MA/Xaverian Brothers) threw two scoreless innings to close out the Johnnies.
RIT gets a day off on Thursday. The Tigers play The College of New Jersey in a single game on Friday, starting at 3:30 p.m.
