ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's Track and Field team placed fifth at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championships. The Tigers finished fifth with a score 67. Ithaca won the titlel with a score of 271 points.
Two lady tigers provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship Meet and one lady tiger qualified for the ECAC Championship Meet.
Junior
Jillian Putney (Dansville, NY/Dansville) qualified for the ECAC Championship meet in the preliminary of the 55-meter hurdles. Putney crossed the line in a time of 9.00 seconds. She will moves on to finals on Saturday.
Senior
Jamie Morey (LeRoy, NY/Notre Dame) had an exceptional performance in the women's weight throw today as she provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship meet. Morey placed second, tossing the weight a distance of 15.91 meters. Sophomore Jennifer Adams also performed exceptionally well as she too provisionally qualified for nationals in the long jump. She placed second, jumping 5.63 meters. Adams is ranked 6th in the long jump in Division III.
Senior
Samantha Mitchell (Southlake, TX/Carroll) tied her school record today in the 55-meter dash preliminaries.She finished in a time of 7.43 seconds. She moves on to the finals on Saturday. Junior
Abby Arday (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) qualified for the finals in the 200-meters dash, finishing in a time of 27.01 seconds.
The Distance Medley relay team of
Kate Dubuisson (Winston-Salem, NC/Mount Tabor),
Alex Bush (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII),
Jennie Springer (Rochester, NY/Fairport), and
Rachel Zoyhofski (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) placed eighth in a time of 13:15.67.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Mitchell, Arday,
Caitlyn Peterson (Ontario, NY/Wayne), and Adams placed second in a time of 1:46.46.
After ten events, the Tigers are fifth out of nine teams with 25 points. The meet will continue and conclude on Saturday with the first event beginning at 10:00 a.m. The coaches would like to thank the alumni and staff who have helped the meet run smoothly thus far.
Saturday saw senior
Samantha Mitchell (Southlake, TX/Carroll) beak her own school record in the 55-meter dash. Shel placed second overall with a time of 7.39 seconds, cutting off .04 seconds from the trial round held on Friday.
Junior
Jillian Putney (Dansville, NY/Dansville) placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdle finals, in a time of 9.04 seconds.
Abby Arday (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of personal-best 26.95 seconds.
Freshman
Brianne Yannotta (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) picked up a point for the team in the 800-meter run placing eighth in a time of 2:29.75. Yannotta teamed up with
Kate Dubuisson (Winston-Salem, NC/Mount Tabor),
Arielle Januszkiewicz (Amherst, NY/Amherst), and
Joelle Scarnati (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) to place fifth in the 4x800-meter relay in a time of 10:18.27.
Januszkiewicz also had a great race in the 3,000-meter race placing sixth in a time of 10:46.66. This time qualified her for the ECAC Championship.
The final race of the day was the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Arday,
Alex Bush (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII),
Jennie Springer (Rochester, NY/Fairport), and Putney placed fourth in the event in a time of 4:14.07.
In the field events, two shot-putters helped the women's team to score points. Freshman Samantha Ramos placed fourth with a toss of 11.24 meters. Senior
Jamie Morey (LeRoy, NY/Notre Dame) placed eighth with a throw of 10.35 meters.
Those who have qualified for the ECAC Championship Meet will be travelling to North Hampton, Mass. next week to compete for the meet.
