ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's basketball team defeated St. John Fisher College 59-56 in Empire 8 action on Tuesday night. The Tigers rallied late to beat the Cardinals for only the third time in the program's history and the first time since 2008.
RIT trailed by three with 2:13 to play in regulation but rallied, out-scoring Fisher 6-0 over the final 2:13 to pick up the win.
Brianna O'Dell (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenedehowa) picked up some key defensive rebounds and converted her free throws down the stretch to help RIT break a four game losing streak.
The Tigers, who trailed by four at the half, outscored the Cardinals 40-33 in the second half. O'Dell scored 16 of her team-high 18 points in the second half.
Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) scored all 13 of her points in the second half to pace the RIT comeback.
Anne Wapshare (Blasdell, NY/Blasdell) added 11 points off the bench.
RIT shot 35.1 percent from the floor on 20-of-57 shooting. The Tigers were 5-of-16 from three point land and 14-of-25 from the foul line.
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, February 9 at 6 pm versus Nazareth College.
