BOSTON, MA -- The women's track and field team had some outstanding individual performances this Friday at the Boston University Valentine Invitational. Although the team was competing against mostly Division I teams, the lady tigers were able to perform at a high level.
Senior
Samantha Mitchell (Southlake, TX/Carroll) had two exceptional performances in both the 55-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Mitchell sprinted through the finish line in a time of 7.53 for the 55 and 26.58 for the 200.
Juniors
Abby Arday (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Jillian Putney (Dansville, NY/Dansville) each set personal records in the 400-meter dash. Arday finished the race in an impressive time of 61.53 seconds while Putney crossed the line in a time of 63.12. Freshman
Jennie Springer (Rochester, NY/Fairport) also had a great race in the 500-meter dash. Springer finished the race in a time of 82.48. Springer's time was just tenths of a second off from qualifying for the ECAC Championship Meet.
Adray, Putney, and Springer then joined forces with junior
Alex Bush (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII) to run a solid 4x400-meter relay race. The team was able to finish the race in a time of 4:10.79 seconds. This time was also just tenths of a second away from qualifying for the ECAC Championship meet.
The women will be back in action next Friday for the Tiger Invitational held at the Gordon Field House.
