Tanev named Atlantic Hockey Association Rookie of the Week

Earns second weekly honor of the season

ROCHESTER, NY - Freshman defenseman Chris Tanev (Toronto, Ontario/) of the RIT men's hockey team was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Rookie of the Week on Monday for the week ending Jan. 31, 2010.  It is Tanev's second AHA Rookie of the Week honor this season.

Tanev scored a goal and added two assists in a weekend split against Bentley. On Friday, Tanev assisted on one goal in a 4-1 win. On Saturday, he scored a power-play goal and added an assist in a 5-4 loss. Tanev leads RIT with a plus-16 rating and has six goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 25 games this season.

The Tigers (15-10-1, 15-4-1 AHA) return to action on Friday and Saturday, as they travel to Sacred Heart to play the Pioneers in a pair of AHA contests.  Friday's game begins at 7:05 p.m., while Saturday's gets underway at 4:05 p.m.  Sacred Heart is the hottest team in Division I, riding a 12-game unbeaten streak (10-0-2).
