Walker breaks weight throw record, leading men's track and field to fourth place finish at St. Lawrence Invitational

CANTON, NY – The RIT men’s track and field team had a solid showing as they competed with 11 other schools at the St. Lawrence Invitational on Sunday. Junior
Brian Walker (Brockport, NY/Brockport) broke the school record in the weight throw for the second time this season.
Walker fired the weight 15.25 meters, breaking the record he set last week of 15.00 meters.
Junior
Brecht Moulin (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) annexed the 500-meter dash in 67.15 seconds. Mike Dempsey was second in the pole vault with a leap of 4.50 meters.
Caryl Brunner (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West),
Nick Cox (Norfolk, VA/Norfolk), Jon Holleran and
Sam Smolenski (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) annexed the distance medley relay with a strong time of 10:44.74.
The team of Moulin,
Jon Sealander (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal),
Zachary Loughery (Wantage, NJ/High Point), and
Anthony Schiavone (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) won the 4x200-meter relay with a strong time of 1:32.83.
Sophomores
Mike Kurvach (Victor, NY/Victor) and
Nathan Weeks (Belding, MI/Belding) picked up third place in the 3000-meter run (8:48.60) and pole vault (3.65 meters), respectively.
The Tigers return to action on January 31, as they compete in the Empire 8 Championships, which will be held at the Gordon Field House on the campus of RIT.
