Women's track and field has excellent showing at RIT Invitational

ROCHESTER, NY -
The women's track and field team had several strong performances as they competed with ten other local schools at the RIT Invitational on Saturday at the Gordon Field House. Senior Jamie Morey (LeRoy, NY/Notre Dame) was RIT's lone winner, placing first in the weight throw with her toss of 15.30 meters.

Other top performers include senior Samantha Mitchell (Southlake, TX/Carroll) who picked up a second place win in the 55-meter dash and a third place finish in the 200-meter dash. Her times for the races were 7.51 and 27.50 respectively.
Mitchell also assisted the 4x200-meter relay team to a third place finish. Mitchell, along with Abigail Arday, Caitlyn Peterson (Ontario, NY/Wayne), and Jillian Putney (Dansville, NY/Dansville) were able to cross the line in 1:50.81.

Freshman Jennie Springer (Rochester, NY/Fairport) and Junior Alex Bush (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII) battled it out and cross the finish line nearly together in the 500-meter dash. Springer out leaned Bush to take second place with a time of 85.50 while Bush recorded a time of 85.55 to snatch third place.

Courtney Saunders (Canyon Country, CA/Canyon), a freshman thrower, had a fourth place finish in the shot put. Her best throw of the day was 10.88 meters. Fellow freshman teammate Rachel Zoyhofski (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) had a strong performance in the 3,000-meter race as she placed sixth with a time of 11:19.13.

The Tigers will be back in action next Saturday, when they travel to compete at the St. Lawrence Invitational.
