ROCHESTER, NY - RIT Head Coach
Roger Worsley has announced the volleyball team’s Class of 2013. The group of 13 student-athletes includes six outside hitters, three setters, two middle hitters, a right-side hitter, and one libero. The 13 student-athletes have a national flavor, as five different states are represented.
Worsley has six outside hitters who can come in and make an immediate impact.
Kimberly Farr (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads).
Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/San Diego),
Suzanne Jokajtys (Boonville, NY/Adirondack),
Jessica Pike (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville),
Kristin Parish (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and
Elyse St. Amand (Plantsville, CT/Southington) will all vie for starting roles in 2009.
In the middle,
Catherine Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) and
Alexandra Kamsch (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) will vie for time opposite three-time All-Empire 8 selection, senior
Vic Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence).
Setters
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia),
Melanie Springer (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) and
Cristine Schiavello (West Chester, PA/Unionville) will be expected to fill the shoes left by
Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica), who finished her Tiger career with the fourth most assists (4,258) in the history of the program.
On the defensive side, libero
Audrey DiPoala (Victor, NY/Victor) will look to shore up what has traditionally been a strong unit.
Right side hitter
Katie Cooper (New Cannan, CT/New Cannan) will also vie for a starting role in 2009.
Worsley, the all-time leader in coaching wins at RIT (210), is just two years removed from leading the Tigers to a berth in the NCAA Tournament. He is very excited about the skill and depth this class brings to the program.
“We are very excited about this year’s recruiting class,” stated Worsley, now in ninth season as head coach of the Tigers. “After the departure of a strong senior class in 2008 and knowing that we will lose another talented group after the 2009 season, we felt this was the right time to reload, not only for 2009 and the future. We expect our newcomers to fill a lot of immediate needs. This is the most athletic group of newcomers coming to RIT since my first recruiting class in 2002.”
