ROCHESTER, NY - Seniors
Mike Hardbarger (Parkersburg, WV/Ritchie County) (Parkersburg, WV/Ritchie County) and
Timothy Wesley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) of the RIT men's track and field team will compete in the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Rose Hulman Institute of Technology on Friday and Saturday.
Hardbarger will compete in the mile run. The preliminaries will be held on Friday at 4:20 p.m. with the championship taking place on Saturday at 2:10 p.m. Hardbarger broke his own school record with a time of 4:10.70 on Feb. 7. That time was among the fastest in all of Division III this season. Hardbarger is making his second straight trip to the indoor championships, having competing in the distance medley relay last season. Hardbarger earned All-American honors at the 2008 Outdoor Championships, finishing fifth in the 1,500-meters.
Wesley will compete in the shot put on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Last weekend, Wesley qualified by hurling the shot 15.82 meters in winning the event at the ECAC Championships. That throw broke a school record. On Monday, Wesley was named the Empire 8 Track and Field Athlete of the Week. It is Wesley's first appearance in the NCAA Championships.
