ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's track and field team opened the 2009-10 indoor season with a good showing at the three-team RIT Early Season Invitational held at the Gordon Field House on Saturday. University of Rochester and SUNY Geneseo also competed. Two new school records fell for RIT.
Matt Marion (Lima, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) set a school record in the 500-meter dash, finishing first in an ECAC qualifying time of 65.16 seconds. He broke the previous record of 65.77 held by
Brecht Moulin (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) . Marion also won the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.10 seconds.
Michael Dempsey set a school record in the pole vault with a NCAA provisional qualifying leap of 4.70 meters. He broke the previous record of 4.67 meters, held by
Mike Herb (Malden-on-Hudson, NY/Saugerties).
The 4 x 400-meter relay team of
Jon Sealander (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal),
Joe Casey (Rochester, NY/Webster Thomas),
Devin Strehle (Lansing, NY/Lansing), and Moulin placed first in a time of 3:28.79.
Moulin was second in the 400-meters, missing first by one-hundredth of a second with a time of 51.07 seconds.
Sam Smolenski (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) was second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:40.79.
Zach Loughery (Sweetwater, NJ/Cedar Creek) was second in the 200-meters and third in the 55-meters.
Mike Kurvach (Victor, NY/Victor) placed second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:35.88.
RIT returns to action on January 16, 2010, as they compete in the RIT Invitational, which will be held at the Gordon Field House.
