ALBANY, NY -- The RIT women’s cross country team competed against both division I and division III teams on Saturday at the Albany Invitational. The Tigers placed 12th overall and fourth among division III teams with a total of 334 points. In addition, three Tiger runners competed at the Yellowjacket Invitational at Genesee Valley Park.
Among the teams the Tigers topped was 24th ranked SUNY Plattsburgh. It is the fourth time in the program's history and first since 2006 that the Tigers have beaten a nationally ranked team.
Freshman
Rachel Zoyhofski (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) was RIT's top finisher, placing 50th with a time of 18:51. Following close behind were teammates
Jouhan Allende (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) who came in 65th with a time 19:05 and
Anna Guthrie (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) who was 67th with a 19:10.
Juniors
Abby Aker (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) and
Arielle Januszkiewicz (Amherst, NY/Amherst) came through the finish line together, Aker placing 86th and Januszkiewicz placing 87th. Their times were 19:25 and 19:27 respectively.
“Today the ladies put together a nice glimpse of what we are capable of," said women's coach Dave Stevens. "We had some great individual efforts which helped us to have a good overall team performance. Overall our tight grouping is still our greatest asset and we need to continue developing that."
RIT returns to action next Saturday, October 24, at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championships.
