ITHACA, NY - Junior Julie Burkett (McDonald, PA/West Allegheny) and sophomore Marie Revekant (Pittsford, NY/East Rochester) advanced out of the first round and into the quarterfinal round, as the RIT women's tennis team completed action at the 2009 New York State Champioships at the Reis Tennis Center hosted by Ithaca College on Friday and Saturday.

Revekant ambushed Brittany Bowen of Alfred in the fifth singles draw, 6-0, 6-1.  Revekant defeated Bowen by the same score in an Empire 8 contest on Wednesday.  Revekant lost Lisa Mijovic of New York University in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-1.

Burkett defeated Sherrita Wilkins of Nazareth in three sets at sixth singles.  Burkett lost the first set 6-0, but rallied to win the second set, 7-6 (7-5).  Burkett then won the 10-point tiebreaker, 10-7.  She fell Nicole Santiago of Vassar College in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-1.

The Tigers will face Stevens in an Empire 8 semifinal match on Saturday, October 24 at Nazareth.
