Junior Lacrosse Player 1 of 10 Honorees
ROCHESTER, NY -- David Burke (Fairport, NY), a junior midfielder on the RIT men's lacrosse team, was one of 10 winners given the Walls-Olson Scholarship. The Walls-Olson scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate strong leadership skills and active involvement in student affairs.

Mr. and Mrs. A. Arthur Gorfain established the scholarship in 1969. It was founded in appreciation for the interest that RIT faculty/staff members A. Stephen Walls and Beverly Olson expressed for their son, Neil, while he was an RIT student.

This year’s winners come from a variety of majors and were selected from 21 applications. Each student has received funds towards their education at RIT based on their demonstration of leadership and involvement on campus.

Burke, a civil engineering technology major, is an officer in RIT's chapter of the the Student Athlete Advisory Committee that has helped raise money for various charities throughout the Greater Rochester area. He is the "Tiger Den" coordinator, helping to raise school spirit among students at RIT.

Burke attended the NCAA Leadership conference in 2007 and will attend the Empire 8 Leadership conference this coming spring. He is a co-captain on the RIT Lacrosse team and plays midfield for the Tigers.
