Steve Jaynes - SID
ROCHESTER, NY -- Lou Spiotti, Director of the Center for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation at RIT, announced the appointment of Amy Reed as the Head Coach of the RIT’s women’s basketball program on Wednesday.

“We are very pleased to have Amy join us as head coach of our women’s basketball program,” said Spiotti. “She brings an outstanding set of qualities and experiences as a player and a coach that will enable us to take our program to the next competitive level and beyond.”

Reed was the assistant basketball coach at Gettysburg College for the past two seasons where she performed a wide array of coaching and teaching duties. Along with working with players on skill development, she coordinated recruiting, arranged team travel plans, led pre-season workouts, prepared scouting reports, assisted with practice and game management, coordinated alumni and parent relations and facilitated team fundraisers. She also served as the strength and conditioning coordinator at Gettysburg.

“Amy is well respected by her colleagues and players alike and has proven that she is ready for this challenge,” stated Spiotti. “I know that her enthusiasm for this role and her professionalism and work ethic will be welcomed by our team and the campus community.”

Reed played her collegiate basketball at Division I Marshall University. She was a four-year starter for the Thundering Herd and was named a captain her senior season. In 2003, Reed was named the Offensive Player of the Year at Marshall and received the Dorothy Hicks Scholarship given by Marshall for excellence in academics and athletics. She is the fifth all-time leading shot blocker in Marshall University history. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 2003 and went on to earn a master’s degree in athletic administration in 2007.

After graduation, Reed was an elementary physical education teacher and girl’s junior high basketball coach and girl’s varsity softball coach in Oklahoma.

Reed currently plays for the Harrisburg Lady Horizon of the Women’s Eastern Basketball Alliance.  She becomes the seventh head coach in the history of the RIT women's basketball program.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to coach at RIT,” said Reed. “It is a great opportunity for me and I am looking forward to taking RIT into national prominence.”
