ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (4-2) men's basketball team advanced to the finals of the 23rd annual Harold J. Brodie Tournament with an 89-73 win over Houghton College (3-5) on Friday night. The Tigers will face SUNY Oneonta in the finals on Saturday afternoon at 3 pm. Oneonta defeated Westfield State 68-46 in the evenings first game.
RIT trailed for the first 1:27 of the first half and never looked back, leading by as many as 12 points in the first half.
Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY) led RIT with 16 first-half points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor.
Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell) (Almond, NY/Hornell) chipped in four three pointers for 12 points as RIT led 44-34 at the half..
The Tigers never looked back in the second half, building their lead to as many as 18 points. Young led RIT, scoring 11 of his 23 points in the second half as Houghton doubled down on Carson in the post.
RIT shot 51.9% for the game, going 28-of-54 from the floor. The Tigers were 9-of-21 from three-point land and they outrebounded the Highlanders 41-32.
Carson posted his fifth double-double in six games this season scoring 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor and grabbing 12 rebounds.
Young had his most productive night shooting 7-of-11 from three-point range finishing with 23 points. he also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) (Strongsville, OH) had a solid night at the point guard spot scoring 11 points grabbing four rebounds dishing out five assists and one steal.
Yannick Anzuluni led all scorers with 35 points for Houghton on 11-of-18 shooting from the floor. He grabbed 11 rebounds and had two assists.
