ONEONTA, NY - The RIT wrestling team earned an eighth place finish out of 11 teams at the 2008 Red Dragon Invitational hosted by SUNY Oneonta on Saturday. The Tigers tallied 67 points and had four wrestlers place, Junior #Mike McInally (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen)# (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) was RIT's best finisher, garnering first place at 125 lbs.
McInally won all four of his matches in dominating fashion. He opened with a technical fall win, then moved to the semifinals with a 16-2 major decision victory. McInally defeated Carl Anderson of WPI, 7-0 in the semifinals before securing a 6-1 win over Jared Lemke of Niagara Community College. McInally is now 5-0 this season.
Senior #Luke Baum (Ontario, NY/Wayne)# (Ontario, NY/Wayne) placed second at 141 lbs., finishing 3-1 over the weekend to move to 9-3 this season. Baum scored two wins by technical fall before defeating Anthony Rizzolo of the College of New Jersey 8-0 in the semifinals. Baum then fell to Stephen Valastro of Southern Maine in a very close championship match, 4-3.
Senior #Nick Ryan (Fairport, NY/Fairport)# (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had one his best performances as a Tiger, picking up three wins and placing fourth overall at 174 lbs.,
#Jason Wake (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy)# (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) finished fifth at 165 lbs., going 3-2.
RIT is back in action on Saturday, December 6, as they host the RIT Invitational that starts at 9:30 a.m.
