ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman
#Megan Kobar (Calgary, Alberta)# (Calgary, Alberta) and sophomore
#Amanda Klassen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Warner Warriors)# (Winnipeg, Manitoba) recorded four points apiece on two goals and two assists to lead the RIT women's hockey team to a 5-2 win over the Burlington Jr. Barracudas at Ritter Arena on Saturday.
RIT out-shot Burlington 44-22, including 18-7 over the final 20 minutes
The Tigers roared out to a 3-0 lead just 3:44 into the contest. Sophomore #Katie Stack (Batavia, NY/Rochester Edge)# (Batavia, NY) opened the scoring 39 seconds in, as she converted on a rebound from in close.
Klassen scored two straight, just 1:18 apart to give RIT a 3-0 cushion. #Ali Hills (Honeoye Falls, NY)# (Honeoye Falls, NY) guided a shot towards the net that was tipped on by #Keltie Jones (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)# (Burlington, Ontario). The rebound came right to Klassen who buried it into the top corner for the tally.
Klassen's second goal came when she jammed a loose puck home front from in close after a shot by Stack went off the post.
Lindsay Hoogstraten scored Burlington's first goal at the 10:34 mark of the period, corralling a loose puck in front of the Tiger net and roofing a shot past Tiger starter #Sandra Grant (Abbotsford, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers)# (Abbotsford, British Columbia).
RIT out-shot Burlington 14-9 in the first period.
The Barracudas cut RIT's lead to 3-2 just over a minute into the second on a power-play, when Mara Szybalski ripped a shot from the left point in the short side past #Karen Quigley (Conception Bay South, Newfoundland/Warner Warriors)# (Conception Bay South, Newfoundland).
Kobar restored RIT's two-goal lead a few minutes later, as she ripped a bullet past Jessalyn Bogacki into the top right corner from the left face-off circle.
Klassen and Kobar combined for RIT's final goal midway through the third period, as Kobar slammed in a rebound off a Klassen shot from in close.
Freshman #Amy Torgerson (Owatonna, MN/Gilmour Academy)# (Wentzville, MO) stopped all seven shots she faced in the third period for RIT.
RIT opens the regular season on Friday, as they host Division I Robert Morris at Ritter Arena starting at 3 p.m.
